What to do today?
I could stay at home and watch season three of Battlestar Galactica.
Or I could go out and ride my bicycle.
I'll do the latter and come back to do the former.
So off I went!
At first I decided I was going out sans camera, but I couldn't help it, so I packed it along.
Not the small camera, that's always out with me, but the big camera.
I didn't want this to be a photo ride, I just wanted to ride and not think about anything else.
Back to Kakaako and the Banksy like bicycle thingys:
I was right across the office supply place and I held down an urge to go in and buy something.
No place to put it anyways.
To the beach!
Wait a minute, what's this?
Freakin pirates!
Arrrrhhhh.
Or something.
I just sort of rode around enjoying the day.
Back to work tomorrow don't you know.
I took some pictures with the big camera, but I'm too lazy to upload them.
If they are any good, I'll post them up later.
I was going to stay for the sunset, but decided to head on back.
To Sand Island!
Rainbows!
I waited there for a bit hoping a third one would appear, but no such luck.
Lemme tell you, that was one strong rainbow, the colors were really bright:
Anyways, I couldn't just stand there forever so I moved on.
To another rainbow right in front of me:
It's a rainbow attack!
Or something.
Obligatory shadow shot:
The sun was getting pretty low and I wondered how the light would look against downtown Honolulu.
I've taken that shot many times and I still haven't gotten it right:
Wait.
What's that?
Another freakin rainbow!
They are attacking!
Thankfully the sun got lower and the rainbows disappeared.
Whew.
The parks here are full until it gets dark:
Enjoy it boys, back to school next week.
Tomorrow, Monday, it's only freshmen, everyone comes back on Tuesday.
I parked the Flat Tire Earth mobile and took in the last light of the day:
Help!
It's the second wave of the Attacking Rainbows!
We need like a anti rainbow thingy.
Or maybe just some clouds:
I swear I don't know what was going on with all them rainbows.
If it was the same rainbow, that has to be the longest I've ever seen one last cause from first one to the last one, about a half hour had elapsed.
Maybe it was just a rainbow kind of day.
An omen of good things to come.
I hope.
All in all I racked up 30 miles, though I had to circle the block to boost it a bit.
Not hard miles mind you, but good miles.
Then again every mile is good mile.
When you are riding a bicycle.

Off to the Races!
I decided to ride over to the LBS to get me some grips.
I also wanted to check out them Kepleresque Biopace chainrings.
Let me tell you, riding around without grips ain't fun. After about a half mile or so, well, riding around without grips ain't fun:

I had to stop there to adjust the seat.
I'll tell you, I must have stopped like five or six time to adjust the seat height. No matter how much I raised it, it still felt a bit low.
More on that later.
Anyways, I hit the LBS and bought me some Ritchey grips.
Should've bought the foam ones.
The Ritchey's have good grip, but are a bit small for my hands.
I'll change them out and put on my Specialized BG grips until I can get the foamy ones.
I pickup a meatball sub from Subway and hit the beach!
It was packed today for they were running a regatta:

Perfect timing!
I scoped out a nice spot, parked Gary Fisher and watched the races:

Here's one crew that swamped at the turn.
You can see them still bailing water:

Another crew, working hard toward the finish:

The race to make the turn:

Talking about races, those Biopace rings are trippy.
Every time I revved up my cadence, I started to bounce on the seat like Peter Cottontail.
Up went the seat again.
Okay, maybe bad form on my part; I was pushing platforms not SPDs and the crank arms are 170s, not my usual 175s.
I don't know if that has something to do with the pulse some have commented on that you get from the Biopace rings at high cadence.
Sort of felt like it does when your rear tire is going flat and you get that bounce when you pedal.
I don't know, it must be me.
At low speeds or low cadence, I couldn't tell the difference.
It's sort of bizarre though, to look down at your chain ring and see it going all lopsided and all.
I adjusted the seat skywards one more time and just could not get rid of the bounce.
Anyways, I haven't decided whether or not to sand down the rust on Gary and paint it or just leave it.
I dig the fact that I'm riding on a twenty year old group set; just that fact alone makes me want to keep this bike.
I got more tweaks to make that I'll get to later.
Wouldn't you know it?
I'm looking out the window right now and, well, a nice way to end a good day:
