The Quest for the Glow!
It.
Is.
On.
Ever since I got my Nikon S2 with the 5cm 1.4 lens, I've been liking how it renders night shots:
This was Nikon's first fast fifty, and if I'm not mistaken, the first 50mm f1.4 lens.
It has tons of spherical aberration wide open, thus giving pictures a sort of soft glowing look.
I dig it.
So I've been on the hunt for something similar to use on my SLR cameras, since the 5cm 1.4 won't mount up.
I got this:
An early version of an F mount lens.
I won't get into details but it had to be modified to use on my present cameras.
I thought I read somewhere that the optical design was similar to the S mount lens, the one on my S2.
It's nice, but doesn't quite have the qualities I was looking for.
It renders a little sharper without 'flaring' the lights but the background lights look sort of cool.
If you look at the top photo, you can see the difference compared to the ones below.
Not below this, below the picture on the top.
I sort of makes sense that the newer lens should be sharper as the optical designs matured.
Anyways, the Quest continues.
Actually I have only one more lens to test: the 55mm 1.2
In other news, my Flickr book came in:
It's really nice.
I mean the pages are thick and semi gloss so it doesn't attract fingerprints.
It's nicely bound and it comes with a dust jacket that matches the cover.
I did the first one as a test, you know, to see if it was worth it or not.
It's nicer than the ones I saw from Mypublisher and at the sale price of .50 a page, it was a super deal.
It was so nice that I made up and ordered another one, just before the sale ended.
I'm also thinking of putting together a book with all my old blog pictures which means I got to go way way back into the Flat Tire Archives (FTA) and do some searching.
Summer project don't you know.
Which is only three weeks away.
Summer I mean.
The non working part.

I'm pretty sure those picture books would sell like hotcakes in a tourist shop.
Maybe.
Happy Summer, Limom!
Peace :)
Happy Summer to you also Chandra!
