7 December

Slowly but surely, the memories fade.
New generations take the place of the old and the significance of what happened here in what seems like another life fades into history.
Hell, the kids I work with barely know about 9/ll.
We try though, try to make them understand.
My trip with a bunch of ninth graders can be found here.
If you, the reader, are ever round these parts, the Arizona Memorial should be one of your stops.
If anything, just to remember.

When I was cycletouring in Normandy in the spring we visited the Normandy Beaches and the American Cemetery - we all found it very thought provoking and emotional.
My Father had landed on the Normandy beaches during the war and seeing the beaches for real and also watching a film about the landing had us all in tears.
The Arizona Memorial is obviously. as you say, a must stop place to visit.

In all my years in Oahu I never visited the Arizona. I meant to I even went to but I could never get past a certain emotional hurdle. Some would say it's a hang up I guess but it is very real to me.
Believe me the Arizona and what it represents has been in my thoughts very much over the years and I have gazed upon it many times. WW2 in general and Pearl Harbor in particular cause me to have strong emotions in general and confusion in my thoughts.

Trevor, one day I hope to make it to the beaches of Normandy.

Oldfool, your reluctance is understandable, your service to country appreciated.
