Oh yeah baby!
I had a good day today.
It was one of those days when you feel like you are struggling, but when you check the computer, you actually did pretty good.
When I first went out, my legs were feeling sort of blah, like I was in the wrong gear or something.
You know, like you have to keep checking to make sure you're not in a higher gear, or your tire isn't flat or your brake pads are rubbing.
It seemed like I was struggling my whole ride, but when I checked my average speed, it turned out I was actually doing pretty good!
I went back to the scene of the splat:
I was sitting behind that car on the left waiting to cross over so I could go through the parking lot directly ahead.
Except it was a large truck with tinted windows yesterday, and I couldn't see cars coming up from left so when I headed out to cross I had to hit the brakes to avoid a car crossing my path.
If you squint your eyeballs, you can still see part of my ego there on the pavement.
Anyways, with the wind blowing and all, I managed to average 15 mph, until I came home that is.
I got a hill don't you know.
Then, my brother and my cousin came by and I switched bikes and headed out again.
Since this was the first time both of them had bicycled in Kailua, I sort of gave them the tour.
A slow tour.
My brother rode my old MTB from his house and my cousin was on his hybrid so speeds were moderate.
Which was okay since it's been a while since I've done any part of my ride slowly.
The pace line:
That's my brother, the Crash Test Dummy, up front and my cousin testing out his legs in back.
I gotta say, riding with my brother ain't exactly fun for he just goes off the front and never looks back.
Next time maybe I'll flatten his tire a bit.
Or something.
I actually saw some of them B Cycle rent a bikes out on the road!
Okay, you really gotta squint your eyeballs to see them, but I was pretty glad to see them out there for the kiosk thingys haven't looked like anyone was using them.
Maybe it's a weekend thing.
We took the scenic route around Kailua and Lanikai, about 13 miles.
My brother, looking like he rode really far:
What a poseur!
Actually, my old bicycle is lookin pretty good there.
My cousin did really well for someone who doesn't ride regularly.
I remember when I first started, I had trouble doing five miles!
I think next time, we'll push up the pace a bit.
Maybe.
Adding it up I put in about 38 miles today.
It was actually sort of fun, taking a slow cruise with folks you know.
I'm looking forward to riding with them again.
Even if no souls got crushed.
There's always next time.

A crash test dummy jersey may be the perfect attire for crushing souls!
He was wearing that jersey when he crushed mine.
